Skyline College Women’s Wrestling Competes at Historic Bakersfield Tournament
The Skyline College Women's Wrestling team proudly participated in the first-ever women's wrestling tournament held in Bakersfield, hosted in a brand-new state-of-the-art facility. The event marked another important milestone in the continued growth of women's wrestling across California and the nation.
Despite competing with a limited roster due to injuries, Skyline brought five dedicated student-athletes who represented the program with resilience, determination, and pride. The team delivered an impressive performance, earning two medals and showcasing significant progress throughout the competition.
Athletes recognized for their performances include:
Saphire Altamirano, Lynelle Legados, all of whom demonstrated strong effort and competitive spirit. In addition, Jax Saeed, Yaharia Torres, and Hailey/Mika Ronquillo competed in closely contested matches, reflecting the team's steady improvement and growth.
"This tournament was a great opportunity for our athletes to compete at a high level and continue developing their skills," said Head Coach Olga Camacho. "We are proud of their performance, especially given the challenges we faced with injuries. This group continues to improve each week."
The Skyline Women's Wrestling program continues to build momentum as one of the emerging programs in California community college athletics.
The team will return to action this Wednesday at Skyline College, hosting Fresno and College of the Redwoods a home meet beginning at 4:00 PM. The community is invited to attend and support the student-athletes as they continue their season.
