Bio

Janet McDowell brings over two decades of coaching experience across club, high school, and collegiate volleyball, with a proven record of developing athletes and building competitive, cohesive teams.

Her club coaching career began in 2000 with Peninsula Juniors Volleyball Club, where she coached 14s and 16s teams, followed by nearly a decade with Quake City Volleyball Club (2003–2012), guiding age groups from 14s through 18s. Janet later coached with Aloha Volleyball Club (2013–2014), and most recently at Red Rock Volleyball in Redwood City (2024–2025) with her 12s team finishing 3rd in the NCVA Premier League and 13s team finishing in the NCVA Power League Bronze division. She currently coaches with Encore Volleyball Club (14s), continuing her long-standing commitment to mentoring young athletes on and off the court.

At the high school level, Janet served as Varsity Head Coach at Terra Nova High School (2004–2007), then as Assistant Coach at Capuchino High School (2008–2011). From 2012 to 2017, she was part of the Burlingame High School coaching staff, contributing to a CCS Division II Championship in 2016 and a berth in the CCS Open Division in 2017.

Since 2018, Janet has been an Assistant Coach at Skyline College, where she supports the program’s continued success in helping student-athletes grow their skills, confidence and love for the game.

Known for her positive coaching style, focus on fundamentals, and emphasis on player growth and teamwork, Janet is passionate about helping athletes reach their full potential while building a lifelong love for the game.
