CCCAA Baseball Playoffs Begin This Week
Skyline College enters the 2024 3C2A Northern California Regional Playoffs as the #7 seed with serious momentum and one of the most complete lineups in the state. With a 29–10 overall record and a dominant 15–5 conference finish, the Trojans are set to host #18 seed Cosumnes River College in a best-of-three series starting May 1 at 2:00 PM, with Game 2 at 11:00 AM on May 2, and a decisive Game 3 (if necessary) to follow.
Offensively, Skyline is lethal — hitting a combined .318 with 427 hits, 308 RBIs, and 99 stolen bases across 39 games. Sophomore standout Ethan Reader (.358 AVG, 39 RBIs) and leadoff sparkplug Gabriel Melara (.355 AVG, 45 runs, 12 doubles) anchor a lineup that can score from top to bottom. Power comes from Trey Johnson (4 HR, .336) and Ethan Casas-Wu (.327), while Santino Nanez (.353) and Makai Susor (.350) bring steady production and speed.
On the mound, Skyline boasts one of the deepest staffs in the region, led by Steven Dalton (7–1, 2.39 ERA, 67 K) and Nikau Heeney (9–1, 3.41 ERA), Tyler Pechetti (4 Wins, 3 SV, 4.26 ERA) and Devin Costa (1.30 ERA, 4 SV, .211 BAA) and it's clear the Trojans can shut down any lineup.
Cosumnes River College enters series with a 22-16 record, showing strong performances both at home (11-8) and away (10-7). Despite a challenging conference record (11-13), the Hawks bring a potent mix of hitting and pitching depth that promises exciting gameplay in the NorCal region.
At the plate, Noah Canter leads the team with a stellar .345 AVG, supported by Alan Quirarte-Guzman (.341) and Brayden Murua (.326). The trio will be key to the offense, driving runs and providing power with a combined 26 doubles and 19 home runs.
On the mound, Ben Pernetti has been the standout pitcher, posting a 3.60 ERA and an impressive 10-2 record over 85 innings. Together with Noah Rhea-Meaux (2.04 ERA), CRC's pitching staff will be crucial in their playoff push.
