Tony Brunicardi Named 2022 Coast Conference Coach of the Year
First year head coach Tony Brunicardi was named Coast Conference Coach of the Year after leading the Trojans to a 30-8 regular season record, their first Coast Conference Championship since 2004 and the #5 seed in this weekends Northern California Regional Playoffs. Coach Brunicardi, an alumni of Skyline College, took over for long time Head Coach Dino Nomicos, after 13 seasons as a member of the Trojan coaching staff.
Coach Brunicardi and his staff, Marcus Pointer, Anthony Granato, Chris Miguel, Joey Gentile, Jake Pashby, and Vinney Borghello guided the 2022 Trojans to one of the best seasons in program history.
"I'm extremely honored to be named Coach of the Year," said Brunicardi. "But this award and our success wouldn't be possible without my entire coaching staff and the amazing support from the administration, faculty, and staff of Skyline College."
Coach Brunicardi acknowledge how difficult the past few years have been for many of the players that helped lead the Trojans to a championship this season. As the Associate Head Coach in 2019-20, Coach Brunicardi watched a promising 16-4 start to the season end amid the pandemic shutdown of intercollegiate athletic competition in early March. After an abbreviated 2021 season ended he was named the 6th head coach in the program's history.
"This seasons success is really because of the amazing group of young men I get to coach everyday." said Brunicardi. "They've overcome so much over the past couple years but they've continually rallied with each other, and preserved."
The #5 seeded Trojans will take on #12 Modesto JC in the first round of a best-of-three series at Skyline Diamond starting on Friday May 6th @ 2:00pm.
