Trojans sweep early season series
The Skyline Baseball team swept Butte College in a three game series over the weekend to improve their record to 4-1.
The Skyline Baseball team swept Butte College in a three game series over the weekend to improve their record to 4-1. The Trojans overpowering offense and strong pitching was on full display over the three games as they outscored Butte 40-10 and combined to strike out 34 Butte hitters.
In the first game Jesse Pierce led the Trojans to a 15-4 win. Pierce went 3 for 3 with two home runs and a triple, knocking in three runs on the afternoon. Ten other Skyline hitters drove in at least one run for the balanced attack. Freshman right hander Benito Valle-Jhanda earned his first win of the season, pitching into the 5th inning and striking out four. Four Trojan relievers combined to shut out Butte over the final four plus innings and combined they struck out another 7 Butte hitters.
On Saturday, Skyline smashed five home runs on their way to an 18-6 win. Jesse Pierce hit his third of the season and drove in three more runs. Trey Zahursky also homered and drove in three. Pat Norton, Camron Grant and Jeremy Keller also send balls out of Trojan Field in the game. Freshmen right hander Rowen Barnes evened his record on the season with the win. Barnes pitched five innings, holding Butte to only one run on three hits. He punched out ten in his dominant outing.
Not to be out done by he Trojans offense, freshman pitcher Conor Hourigan took the mound on Sunday in the series finale and carried a no-hitter into the top of the ninth inning. A leadoff single ended his day, but not before he struck out ten Butte batters in route to his second win on the season. Freshmen shortstop Jace Jeremiah reached base five times in the game with three hits and two walks. He also stole a base and scored 2 runs.
Skyline will travel to Solano College on February 8th and then return back home for a three game series with Shasta College on February 10th, 11th & 12th.
