Trojans split a pair with Fresno CC on opening weekend
Freshman pitcher Conor Hourigan's dominant outing led the Trojans to their first win of the season on Sunday. The #15 ranked Trojans traveled to #6 ranked Fresno City College and picked up their first win of the year by a score of 6-4, splitting a two game series with the Rams.
In his first collegeiate game, Hourigan struck out the side twice, including five of the first six batters he faced. Hourigan picked up the win, finishing with 5.1 innings pitched, 10 strikeouts, giving up one run on one hit and three walks. Freshman, Michael Sarhatt entered the game in the ninth and closed out the Rams to earn his first save of the year and Skyline career.
After struggling with runners in scoring position on Friday against the Rams, the Trojans bounced back with timely hitting throughout the game. Freshman catcher, Drew Aspillera opened the scoring with a bases loaded single in the second. That was immediately followed up by a two run single with the bases loaded by freshman outfielder Jeremy Chong. The Trojans added to their lead with another three runs in top of the fifth inning, capped off by a two run double by freshman outfielder Tyler White.
Skyline (1-1) will host Butte College for a three game series starting Friday February 3rd @ 2:00pm. Weekend games against Butte will be Saturday at 1:00pm and Sunday at 12:00pm.
Game 1
The #15 ranked Skyline College Trojans dropped their opener against the #6 ranked Fresno City College Rams by a score of 3-1. The Trojans struggled with runners in scoring position all day, leaving nine runners on base. Ram's pitchers, Noah Galvan and Christian Williams stifled the Trojans' bats by holding them to six hits and one run over nine innings.
Freshman pitcher Rowen Barnes was outstanding in his first career college outing. Rowen finished with five innings pitched, giving up two runs on four hits, while striking out five and walking one. With the tough-luck loss, Rowen and the Trojans fall to 0-1 on the season.
